Feeling strongly that our outdoor heritage is a legacy that should be preserved for future generations, Gay Dellinger and her children gave 60 acres of forest and lake ecosystem in 1999 and The Margaret and Luke Pettit Environmental Preserve, Inc. (the "Preserve") was formed. The Preserve is a private, nonprofit corporation and having perpetual duration seeks:
To provide a nature preserve for environmental studies;
To provide a safe haven for endangered species; To provide
a research area of educational and scientific value; and,
to provide an outdoor teaching laboratory of educational
and scientific value. |
|
| With
open space disappearing at an accelerating rate, the Preserve
is an opportunity for children to experience the joy of
land in its natural state for the study of living laboratory
for the study of living and non-living entities. All activities
within its boundaries seek to limit the impact of humankind
and preserve the natural balance of this area. |
